1971 Gibson EB-3
I stole this from Al Nali’s of Ann Arbor for $300 in 1992. Well, sort of.
It was a factory second for reasons unknown. It could have been a finish flaw, but by the time I got it the finish was so weather checked that it looked like the Mohave desert during a drought. The neck offered more relief than FEMA and the truss rod was tweaked as far as it could go. But it truly was a steal, it played beautifully and sounded wonderful.
This was never my #1, simply because the neck bow resulted in too much action, but it scored a 100% on the cool scale. In 2006, after having the neck heat pressed, I swapped it straight up for a 1969 Gibson Les Paul with a Tokai Neck, but that is another post for a later day.
Shamefully I have not found any pictures of my own, but I have posted a couple of videos taken during the mid 1990′s when I was playing it exclusively with the band Mudd River.
